Fuel Polishing

Fuel Polishing

A mechanical process which filters the fuel (kerosene) and removes sediment, sludge, water and microbial growth through filtration. Fuel is filtered from your old tank into your new tank or recirculated within the existing tank.

Why would I require it?

Your fuel tank is often forgotten about and neglected, as this is the source of fuel for your heating system it is essential to keep it free of sediment, sludge water and other impurities. These impurities can block filters, water can lead to seized fuel pumps, resulting in a system failure. Over time, condensation occurs within the tank and collects, sediment builds up on the floor of the tank over time, this stirred up with fuel deliveries and drawn into your fuel burning appliance resulting in blocked filters and eventually failure.

How long will it take?

Our process can be carried out whilst the system is in use. We use a recirculation system that utilises the fill point of the tank. The time to complete depends on many factors such as volume of tank, fuel quantity, how heavily contaminated the fuel is. With our filtration system we can typically treat 2500L of fuel within 1 hour.

What is contaminated fuel?

It is deemed that fuel containing particles greater than 5microns is contaminated, our system filters down to 2microns.

Can you use additives?

We recommend the use of a biocide, these aim to kill any microbes present in your fuel which lead to sludge formation. This is a problem when fuel is left stagnant in a tank for a prolonged period. For example, in the summer months when fuel consumption is at its lowest. Biocides kill sludge forming microbes a problem can prevent itself, and therefore, extending the shelf life of your kerosene.
