How do I top up my boiler pressure?

  • Check for leaks in the system. If you find a leak, call an engineer to repair your boiler immediately.
  • If there are no leaks, you can try to re-pressurise the system by carefully following your boiler manufacturer's instruction manual. If there is still no improvement, you should call an engineer as it's likely there is a failed component in the system.

What is central heating sludge?

Sludge, or magnetite, to give it its proper name, is a black substance in the central heating pipes made up of dissolved and rusted metal.  It forms when the water in the system reacts with the metal in radiators and pipes.

Because sludge is heavier than water, it can settle in radiators and pipework and, if left to build up, it can damage the boiler and the system.

How often should I get my boiler serviced?

Getting your boiler serviced when there doesn’t appear to be any issue may seem unnecessary, but servicing your boiler once a year should help to prolong its lifespan.

Having an annual service should help you avoid unforeseen problems with your boiler, and keep it running efficiently.

What size boiler do I need?

The only way to correctly determine what size boiler you need is by calculating the heat demand or heat loss of the property. Many rules of thumb and simple calculators exist but these are not accurate enough to obtain the correct figure.

Are your engineers gas safe registered?

Yes, we are fully gas safe registered. It is very important that anyone working on a gas appliance is fully registered.
